Bruce began violin lessons when he was 8, playing in school orchestras, and later, in the New Haven Youth Symphony Orchestra.
He is now a member of the Strathspey and Reel Society of New Hampshire. Below is a photo of one of their gatherings in Concord, NH.

On Sunday, September 29, 2002, at the Peterborough Town Hall, there was a celebration for Bob McQuillen receiving a 2002 National Endowment For The Arts National Heritage Fellowship award.
